chromeos2The beta release of a new Linux OS by the SUSE Studio seems to be trending up on Twitter and has created a lot of buzz already.
The OS, which is named as the Chrome OS, is actually only a Linux distribution built using the developer version of the Google Chrome web-browser for Linux at it's core and is not by Google.

The Chrome OS by SuSE, which comes pre-installed with the Chrome web browser should not be confused with the Google Chrome OS which will be available for download in 2010 after an official announcement by Google. Below is a screenshot of the Chrome OS by SUSE.

Like any other Linux distribution, the Chrome OS by SUSE can be downloaded for free. Unfortunately! a Live-CD version is not available.
To try it out, head on to this page and follow the instructions. Please note that it's not the official Google Chrome OS which was promised by Google in June this year.

For those who love open-source and simply don't want to try Windows 7 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard, we have the new build of Ubuntu 9.10 named as Karmic Koala.
Karmic Koala is the 11th build of the popular Linux-based distribution and promises a new stable environment to it's users.

Ubuntu 9.10 features a redesigned, faster boot and login experience, a revamped audio framework, and improved 3G broadband connectivity, all of which contribute to a first-class user experience. Furthermore, the innovative '100 Paper Cuts' initiative organised with the Ubuntu Community allowed users to nominate minor annoyances that impacted their enjoyment of the platform.

The most noticeable two new additions to the Ubuntu platform have been the Ubuntu One and the Ubuntu Software Center. The former is an umbrella name for an exciting suite of online services which provides an enhanced desktop experience, simplifies backup, synchronisation while the later is a repo that provides better information to users about all the software.
For developers, Ubuntu now have a simplified toolset called 'Quickly' which makes it fun and easy by automating many of the mundane tasks involved in programming. Pidgin has been replaced by Empathy as the default IM client on all flavors of Ubuntu Karmic Koala.

2. The starter edition of Office 2010 will have Word and Excel programs and it will only be available with new PCs.
3. The public beta of Office 2010 will start later this year  though you can try Office Web Apps now itself.
4. Office 2010 will be available in three editions – Office Home and Student 2010, Office Home and Business 2010, or Office Professional 2010 (looks like they killed the Ultimate edition).
5. Click-to-Run is a new feature that will make it easier for you to try Microsoft Office 2010 on an existing PC. It will automatically install software patches when connected to the Internet and, since it uses virtualization, you’ll be able install multiple versions of Microsoft Office on the same computer side-by-side.
